BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – Mathers Bridge in Brevard County reopened to boating traffic on Monday after being temporarily closed due to mechanical and electrical failures that happened on Saturday, according to a news release.
County officials said the “mechanical support failure” occurred while the bridge was in the open position.

The bridge later reopened to vehicle traffic, but overnight efforts and additional work Sunday revealed an electrical system issue that took longer to complete.
The 700-foot low-level bridge first opened in 1927 and connects South Tropical Trail on Merritt Island’s southern end to the western end of Banana River Drive in Indian Harbour Beach.
