VIDEO: 6-year-old boy with autism rescued from pond on Christmas Day

Coco found in chest-deep water near Conyers Court around 6:30 p.m.

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Deputies spent Christmas evening rescuing a 6-year-old boy from a pond near his neighborhood in Deltona, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.

In a release, deputies said that the boy — identified as Coco — has autism, is nonverbal, and is known to be attracted to water. He had to be rescued from a pond last summer near his home.

“He started taking swimming lessons after the last incident in August 2024,” the release reads.

However, Coco went missing again, though he was ultimately found on Thursday night in another pond nearby, according to the VSO.

Investigators said they found Coco cold but unharmed in chest-deep water off Conyers Court around 6:30 p.m.

“Deputies spoke with the family about improving precautionary measures on the house and having Coco wear his AngelSense tracker at all times,” the release finishes.
