Central Florida business replaces Apopka family’s roof after another company disappears with insurance check

‘You know there are still good people in this world,’ homeowner says

APOPKA, Fla. – A local roofing company stepped in to help an Apopka family who lost tens of thousands of dollars after a roofing company cashed their insurance check but never replaced their roof.

Last November, News 6 reported on the Coleman family’s ordeal with Hurricane Roofer.

The family’s insurance company settled a claim for a new roof and issued a $28,000 check payable to the Colemans, Hurricane Roofer, and Rocket Mortgage.

However, Hurricane Roofer cashed the check in July 2025 and never returned to replace the roof, according to the family.

After seeing the News 6 report, the owners of 3MG Roofing and Solar contacted News 6 investigator Louis Bolden, offering to replace the family’s roof at no charge.

“I sent a text to my main two owners, and said ‘there’s somebody in our community that could use some help, and are you guys down to make this happen?’ And without hesitation, they responded yes, and here we are,” John Hagan, sales manager with 3MG Roofing and Solar said.

Steve Coleman expressed gratitude.

“You know there are still good people in this world, and you know 3MG, John, Danny at 3MG Roofing, they proved that when they saw the story on News 6,” Coleman said.

Dexter Grant II is a senior project manager at 3MG Roofing and Solar.

“We do right. And we just want to make sure, we still just go into each community and leave a good impression,” Grant said.

News 6 reached out to the owner of Hurricane Roofer but did not receive a response.
