These Central Florida counties are opening cold weather shelters as temperatures hit the 30s

Colder temperatures continue into next week

Cold again on Monday

ORLANDO, Fla. – Temperatures on Friday dropped to their lowest in a while, and we expect more cold weather on the way starting Sunday and into next week.

Shelters for people who need to stay somewhere warmer are available across Central Florida.

This list will be updated as more counties and shelters announce when they will open.

Brevard County

WHEN: Friday. Opening times vary by location

WHERE:

On Sunday, Matthew’s Hope will open an emergency shelter.

Flagler County

WHEN: Friday, Sunday and Monday nights starting at 5 p.m.

WHERE: Rock Transformation Center, 2200 N. State Street in Bunnell

Transportation will be provided for anyone who needs help getting to the shelter. Stops are listed below.

East side of the county

  • Dollar General at Publix Town Center on Market Avenue (leads to Dollar General), 3:30 p.m.
  • McDonald’s at Old Kings Road South and State Road 100 at the dirt road on the east side, 4 p.m.
  • Dollar Tree behind Carrabba’s in the Dollar Tree Parking lot, 4:30 p.m.
  • Palm Coast Main Branch Library, northwest corner of Palm Coast Parkway and Belle Terre Parkway, 4:45 p.m.

Lake County

WHEN: Friday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, starting at 5 p.m.

WHERE: LifePointe Church, 3551 E. Orange Ave., Eustis

TRANSPORTATION: Lake County is offering free transportation. For information on LakeXpress’s Fixed Route service, call 352-742-1940. For information on Lake County’s Connection Paratransit Service, call 352-742-2612.

West side of the county

  • Dollar General at County Road 305 and Canal Avenue in Daytona North, 4 p.m.
  • Bunnell Free Clinic, 703 Moody Boulevard, 4:30 p.m.
  • Bridges United Methodist Church in Bunnell, 205 N. Pine Street, 4:30 p.m. (listed as the same pick-up time because of the close proximity)

Marion County

WHEN: Thursday, starting at 6 p.m.

WHERE: The Salvation Army Center of Hope, 320 NW 1st. Ave., Ocala

Orange County

Transformation Village will continue to operate its cold weather shelter on Friday and Saturday nights at the former Amazing Grace Church, 17502 East Colonial Dr. in Bithlo.

Other shelters will open again on Sunday.

WHEN: Sunday, Jan. 18, 5 p.m. to 9 a.m.; Monday, Jan. 19, 5 p.m. to 9 a.m.

WHERE: Orange County government is opening two pet-friendly warming centers at the following locations:

  • Barnett Park Gymnasium, 4801 W Colonial Dr, Orlando
  • Goldenrod Recreation Center, 4863 N Goldenrod Rd, Winter Park

Pet owners must provide carriers for cats, leashes for dogs, and other food and supplies.

Anyone in East Orange County can go to Bithlo Community Park to catch a bus to the Goldenrod location at these times:

  • Sunday, January 18, 2026 | 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
  • Monday, January 19, 2026 | 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

In addition, these shelters are expanding capacity for cold weather:

  • Coalition for the Homeless, 18 North Terry Ave., Orlando, FL 32801
  • Orlando Union Rescue Mission, 3300 West Colonial Drive, Orlando, FL 32805
  • The Salvation Army Orlando (Men Only), 624 Lexington Ave., Orlando, FL 32801
  • The Salvation Army Orlando (Women and Children Only), 400 West Colonial Drive, Orlando, FL 32804
  • United Global Outreach is opening a shelter through Monday night in the former Amazing Grace Church, 17502 East Colonial Dr. in Bithlo. Shuttle available at 5 p.m. at Transformation Village, 18409 11th Ave.

Finally, Matthew’s Hope, which provides services for homeless people, is opening a cold-weather shelter at their Winter Garden location for anyone who needs it.

    • Operating Sunday evening through Wednesday morning, Jan. 21

LYNX buses will offer free transportation to any of these locations. Just let the driver know you are seeking a cold-weather shelter.

Osceola County

WHEN: Sunday nights, starting at 6 p.m.

WHERE:

  • First United Methodist Church St. Cloud, 1000 Ohio Avenue, St. Cloud
  • Iglesia Del Nazareno Casa De Vida, 2367 Fortune Road, Kissimmee
  • Poinciana Christian Church, 3181 Pleasant Hill Road, Kissimmee

LYNX buses can provide free transportation to the shelters. Just let the driver know you are going to a cold-weather shelter.

Osceola Animal Services will also house pets during the operation. They will need to be in a carrier before they board.

Seminole County

WHEN: Thursday, starting at 5 p.m.

WHERE: Sanford Rescue Outreach Mission, 1701 Historic Goldsboro Blvd, Sanford, 32771

Sumter County

WHEN: Friday, starting at 5 p.m.

WHERE: Refuge at Jumper Creek, 4912 SE 7th Dr., Bushnell

WHAT: Family homeless shelter opening its doors to anyone who needs to escape the cold weather. Can’t take pets, and no one who is a registered sex offender.

The Salvation Army of Lake and Sumter County is also opening a daytime warming center on Friday and Monday, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Volusia County

WEST VOLUSIA

WHEN: Friday, then Sunday through Monday (doors open 6:30 p.m. to 8 a.m.)

EAST VOLUSIA

WHEN: Thursday and Friday, then Sunday through Monday
