BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – Firefighters responded Thursday afternoon to a vegetation fire in the Mims area, according to a Brevard County spokesperson.
Brevard County Fire Rescue was responding to the fire in the area of Blounts Ridge and Aurantia roads at the time of this writing, the spokesperson said.
The fire had grown to 20 acres and was contained at the time of this report, according to the Florida Forest Service. Two out buildings had since burned and the FFS was said to be cutting fire lines as of the latest update.
Additionally, two people who were evacuated have since been allowed to return to their homes, firefighters said, adding the homes were not damaged.
This was one of two fires happening at the same time Thursday in Brevard County, according to the fire department. The other fire started in the Melbourne area off of Business Center Boulevard near the Holy Trinity school, causing the school to shelter in place, the fire department confirmed.
