APOPKA, Fla. – Police in Apopka are searching for the driver of a white Ford pickup truck accused of hitting a pedestrian and fleeing the scene, leaving the victim critically injured.
The crash happened April 26 near the intersection of Orange Blossom Trail and Bradshaw Road, according to investigators. Authorities said the 43-year-old man was struck while attempting to cross the roadway.
The driver did not stop and left the victim at the scene. He was transported to a hospital, where he remains under medical supervision, police said.
In newly released surveillance images, investigators identified the vehicle as a white Ford F-150 pickup truck. Traffic homicide investigators have been working to track the vehicle’s path following the crash.
“We’ve tracked it quite a distance from the scene,” said Sgt. Clifford MacDonald with the Apopka Police Department. “We are looking to the public and to businesses to help us locate the vehicle.”
People who frequent the area say the intersection can be dangerous for pedestrians.
“It could be very dangerous,” said Timothy Johnson, who regularly walks nearby. “You definitely have to be safe. You have to pay attention to what you are doing.”
Despite posted signage and traffic signals warning drivers to stop for pedestrians, police said they have responded to multiple crashes involving pedestrians at the intersection over the past year.
Johnson said the incident has made him more cautious.
“Usually, I’m vigilant when it comes to crossing the street, or walking period,” he said. “But now, it makes you want to heighten when it comes to walking in this area.”
Police said the victim remains hospitalized. Anyone with information about the crash or the vehicle is urged to contact the Apopka Police Department or Crimeline.
