DUNNELLON, Fla. – A 25-year-old Dunnellon man is behind bars after Marion County deputies uncovered what they believe are human remains buried in the backyard of his home while investigating his father’s disappearance, the sheriff’s office said.
Andres Bahamon, who was identified as a person of interest in his father’s disappearance, was arrested on Monday and charged with felony evidence tampering. His father, 43-year-old Andres Bahamon-Prada, had not been seen since May 7, according to an arrest affidavit.
While executing a search warrant at the residence at 2180 NW 225th Ave., detectives located an area of freshly disturbed dirt, detected the odor of decomposition, and uncovered a large, rolled carpet suspected to contain human remains. Deputies also found a shattered back door, what appeared to be a bullet casing on the porch, suspected blood on the door frame, and bullets inside the home, the arrest report states.
Investigators said Bahamon sent a photo to his mother in Germany that appeared to show his father deceased. She forwarded it to Bahamon-Prada’s mother and urged her to call law enforcement. Bahamon was located near a RaceTrac gas station on West Silver Springs Boulevard in Ocala.
Bahamon is being held in the Marion County Jail with no bond.
Deputies have yet to positively identify the remains.
Detectives are also searching for Bahamon-Prada’s silver 2007 Infinity M35. They believe that his vehicle may contain important evidence in this investigation.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of this vehicle or who was last in possession of it is urged to call (352) 732-9111.
