WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Two people are dead in an early-morning house fire in Winter Haven, police said.
Crews responded just after 10:15 a.m. Sunday to 5th Street NE and found a house with heavy smoke and flames.

Crews learned two elderly people were trapped inside, and two others made it out before firefighters arrived.
Officials said the fire was contained within five minutes, but the two people inside died. It appears the fire started in the back of the house and was caused by an electrical fault at an outlet.
Winter Haven Fire Chief Drew Neubrand said, “Our hearts are with the family and loved ones of those who lost their lives in this tragic fire. We also recognize the impact this incident has on our entire community, and we are grateful that two adults were able to escape safely.”
The Red Cross has been called in to help.
