Teen airlifted to hospital after serious train crash in New Smyrna Beach

Incident happened near train tracks at Eleanor Avenue

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – A 16-year-old girl was seriously injured after being struck by a train in New Smyrna Beach on Wednesday morning, according to the police department.

In a release, police said the incident happened shortly before noon near the railroad tracks at Eleanor Avenue.

Afterward, the teen was airlifted to an Orlando medical facility, the release shows.

Investigators added that based on the preliminary investigation, the incident appears to be accidental.
