ST. CLOUD, Fla. – A St. Cloud family behind a mobile lemonade stand says they were surprised when police told them they couldn’t operate from a grassy area across from an Orlando Health facility near an emergency room entrance.
The St. Cloud Police Department later addressed the situation in a Facebook post Tuesday, saying the group could have been issued citations but were not. As of the latest check, the post had received more than 560 likes.
The mobile business, known as “The Lemonade Boys,” is run by brothers Dyllon and Deven Thompson along with their 8-year-old brother, Dakari, with help from their father, Derrick Thompson.
Police said the concept of the lemonade stand was not the issue, but rather where it was set up. The department said businesses operating from that location need two permits, including a tent permit.
Police added if the lemonade stand operated in a driveway, the permits would not be required.
Derrick Thompson said he has since signed the necessary paperwork to continue operating the mobile lemonade stand legally.
