EUSTIS, Fla. – DeLand police arrested a second suspect in connection with the double homicide of two men found shot to death in downtown DeLand last month.
Daytron W. Etkins, 41, of Eustis, was taken into custody just before 7 a.m. Friday at his Bates Avenue residence on a charge of felony accessory after the fact. Investigators also executed a search warrant at the home as part of the ongoing investigation.
According to police, Etkins is the father of Keyan Rundell, the 17-year-old previously arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of Dustin Rose and Samson Campbell.
“Etkins knowingly assisted his son following the homicides and took actions intended to help him avoid law enforcement,” said DeLand police Capt. Prurince Dice. “We want to be clear, assisting or concealing a person wanted in connection with a homicide is a serious matter that we will not ignore or tolerate. Family relationships do not place anyone above the law or excuse conduct that interferes with a criminal investigation. Anyone who knowingly helps a wanted person evade law enforcement should understand that those actions can carry serious legal consequences.”
Rundell was arrested Wednesday when deputies from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office located him at a Super 8 Motel in Ellenton. He was taken into custody without incident at 8:30 a.m. on an out-of-county warrant.
U.S. Marshals announced the arrest, and DeLand Police Chief Jason Umberger confirmed it at a news conference Wednesday afternoon, where he also hinted that more arrests were likely in the case.
