Masked intruder shoots teen during Windermere home invasion

Orange County deputies search for assailants

WINDERMERE, Fla. – A teen was shot late Tuesday during a home invasion near Windermere, according to deputies.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office said the shooting was reported at 10:22 p.m. at the Retreat at Windermere apartments at 5801 Nature View Drive.

Deputies said two 19-year-old roommates were home when someone knocked on the door. Intruders rushed into the apartment and demanded cash and drugs, deputies said.

A struggle ensued, and one of the teens was shot in the stomach, according to deputies.

The victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital, where he underwent surgery, deputies said.

The other teen was not injured. He told News 6 that three intruders stole $1,400 in cash. He also said that he and his roommate did not have any drugs.

Residents said the area isn't known for crime.

"It was really surprising because this is a really nice place to live," neighbor Joy Altman said. "I'm not afraid here, but it was shocking to have something like that happen."

The assailants have not been found.

No other details have been released.
