Reporting for dooty: Boy agrees to potty train after learning police don't wear diapers

Apopka police tell boy who wants to be officer that police have to use potties

APOPKA, Fla. - A Central Florida mom was having trouble getting her son, Cannon, to give up diapers because he believed police officers didn't use the potty -- that was, until officers with the Apopka Police Department set him straight.

"Police officers don't use potties," Cannon said.

Cannon's mom said the little boy, who wants to be a police officer when he grows up, refused to give potty training a chance because he was convinced it wasn't necessary to become a police officer.

She needed help teaching Cannon otherwise, and Apopka officers came to her rescue, inviting her and Cannon to the Police Department.

Cannon, in tiny uniform and all, met some local heroes, got a tour of the station and a few gifts before officers showed him one of the most important rooms in the building: the restroom.

"Look at me. You understand about the potty? That the police officers have to use this? We don't wear diapers" one officer said.

Another officer told Cannon that since they're police officers, they have to use potties.

Pictures from Cannon's visit show how excited he was for the tour and lesson.

Even more excited is Cannon's mom, who said she's had much more success in the potty training department since her son's visit.

She said she's thankful to the entire staff of the Apopka Police Department, who went above and beyond to make the experience so special for Cannon.
