The Marion County Sheriff's Office said the victim had advertised his German shepherd puppies for sale on social media and was contacted by the suspects.

After they agreed on the price for one of the dogs, the victim took the puppy to the Walmart so the transaction could be made in a public place, deputies said.

Officials said Karrels and Stegall took the puppy without paying and attempted to leave. The victim tried to stop them, but Karrels struck him and he fell to the ground, deputies said. Hayden then drove over the victim’s legs, deputies said.

Witnesses notified authorities, who apprehended the trio, according to deputies.

The puppy was returned to its owner, whose condition has not been released.

Karrels and Stegall were arrested on charges of robbery without a firearm or weapon. Hayden faces charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

All three suspects were booked into the Marion County Jail.
