Orange County Library System hosting events throughout the year to commemorate 100th anniversary

The ball dropping in New York City meant more than just the start of 2023. It meant the start of a historic year for the Orange County Library System.

In November, the Orange County Library System will be celebrating its 100th anniversary.

From now until then, the library will be having numerous events and celebrations to commemorate the milestone.

Here are just a few of the upcoming events.

• On Jan. 6, there will be a celebration with the Orange County Regional History Center to look back on 100 years of service to Orange County.
• On Jan. 7, the library will host its 100 Year Celebration Kickoff event! Details of the event can be found by clicking or tapping here, but it will be an all-day event that will be fun for the whole family.
• On Jan. 21, people can learn more about the history of Orlando during a session on historic landmarks and structures throughout the city.
• On Feb. 1, there will be a session dedicated to learning more about the film industry through each of the decades the library has been open.
• On Feb. 10, people can learn more about Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, and Harold Lloyd, who each had two movies in theaters in 1923. This session will be devoted to how film has evolved over 100 years and how the current Orlando community connects to the 1920s.
• On Feb. 19, the library will host a “Meet the Author” event featuring Kwame Onwuachi, who will discuss his first cookbook, “My America: Recipes from a Young Black Chef.”
