ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – As COVID-19 vaccines continue to roll out, many families are trying to get back to some sense of normalcy. The Orange County Library System has been open throughout the pandemic, offering safe and unique ways for people to learn, grow and connect. 5 things you can do for free with your library card
We’ll start with five things you can do with your library card, through the Orange County Library System. Binge-watch quality movies and TV series through streaming services such as Kanopy and Hoopla Digital, without paying for costly subscriptions. AdMake sure your library card is in good standing. In the interim, Circulation staff will email you with your library card number, so you can start using the digital resources right away, until the physical card arrives. A library card also provides free access to arts, cultural and entertainment venues through the Local Wanderer program.
Celebrate African American stories, poetry and performances through virtual event
The Orange County Library System will host a virtual Read-In on Feb. 28 celebrating the works of African-American artists, authors, musicians and poets. Established in 1989, the National African Read-In is the first U.S. event dedicated to diversity in literature, according to the library system. Orange County Library System suspends home delivery services
click to enlarge Photo via OCLS/InstagramFollowing a government directive to shut down non-essential services, the Orange County Library System has temporarily stopped home delivery service.Considering an ongoing shelter-in-place order in Orange and Seminole counties is keeping kids home from school, and a statewide order prohibits visits to retirement homes, the suspension hits parents and the elderly particularly hard.The OCLS administration announced the home delivery suspension on Thursday afternoon, following Orange Countys order to halt all non-essential work in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and to protect employees. The closures will remain in place until further notice.Customers who already ordered items from the library can check the status of their request by logging into their account on ocls.info . If the item is checked out to the cardholder, then it's on route. Some materials won't be sent until home delivery service resumes.OCLS had previously closed all sixteen location to the public on March 18, but kept the mail delivery service open, which includes books, music and DVDs. The OCLS website has the latest offerings, and let's face it, you probably have some extra time on your hands.

The Orange County Library System announced today the cancellation of all library-sponsored events and programs scheduled from March 14 through March 31. Sadly, this includes the Orlando Book Festival scheduled for this weekend.At publication time, core library services remain available during regular hours. However, "camps, classes, events, programs, staff-assisted studio sessions, tours, library pop-ups and outreach events" will not take place.
