If you have favorite books or a favorite author, you’ll want to keep an eye on Orange County Library System, which will welcome some best-selling authors for the public to see and learn from.

Erin Sullivan, Orange County Library System chief marketing and public relations officer, said that when readers connect with a book in a meaningful way, they often want to immerse themselves in it.

“They like to learn more about how the book came to be, why the authors made certain choices (and) what the inspiration was for their favorite character or scene,” Sullivan said. “Seeing an author speak gives them an opportunity to hear the story of that book and learn more about the author’s writing process. At a lot of author events, the audience has a chance to ask questions, giving people a chance to interact directly with their favorite writers.”

On April 23, the Local Author Festival is scheduled at Orlando Public Library, where people can go to meet authors from a variety of genres. Each author will have books available for purchase and signing.

Then, on April 28, Orange County Library System will welcome prominent author Jane Green at the Southwest Author Series, presented in partnership with The Rotary Club of Dr. Phillips. Green is the author of 18 fiction and romance novels that have appeared on the New York Times Bestseller list.

She will appear at the Southwest Branch at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The event is free and light refreshments will be served. Registration is encouraged.

“Jane Green will talk about her writing and research process, with a focus on her most recent title, ‘Sister Stardust,’” Sullivan said. “That novel is inspired by real events in the life of Dutch actress and socialite Talitha Getty, who married the wealthy oil heir John Paul Getty in the 1960s. The two were engrossed in ‘60s counterculture in London and Marrakesh, and Green’s book tells the story through a character who befriends Talitha and learns about her troubled life.”

Green’s talk will be followed by a Q&A and book signing.
