Orlando City looks to stay in playoff hunt

Lions host Chicago Fire at home Wednesday night

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – After a 1-1 draw against FC Cincinnati, Orlando City is still on the outside looking in for the MLS Playoffs, but not by much.

The Lions, currently in 10th place in the Eastern Conference, are three points behind D.C. United for ninth place. A win Wednesday night against the Chicago Fire and a loss from D.C. would put the Lions back in.

The top seven seeds in each conference get into the first round of the playoffs, while eighth and ninth place play in a wild card match.

“We know where we want to go,” interim head coach Martin Perelman said after training Monday morning. “It’s one game at a time, especially when you have this congested calendar.”

Since the World Cup break, the Lions have lost only two of the last seven games, one loss on the road and the other in Leagues Cup play. In the last three weeks, the Lions have played six games.

Wednesday’s game against Chicago features a rematch of European rivals between Orlando City’s Antoine Griezmann and Chicago’s Robert Lewandowski. Griezmann played for Atletico Madrid in Spain, and Lewandowski played for Bayern Munich in Germany.

Kickoff is Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Inter.co Stadium.
