The U.S. Navy Blue Angels have been around since 1946, but it wasn’t until 69 years later they had their first female pilot take to the skies in one of their air shows. That first female was Maj. Katie Higgins Cook, who said flying is in her blood. Flying into uncharted territory for a woman, she still remembers her first show with the team in El Centro, California. I knew people were watching because I was the first woman to fly a Blue Angel aircraft for a show,” said Cook. “I would say, you know, the sky’s the limit, quite literally, the sky is the limit, “said Cook.

MELBOURNE, Fla. – For the first time in six years, the Blue Angels will perform in Melbourne. The Great Florida Air Show announced dates for its 2021 show at the Orlando Melbourne International Airport. From May 15 to May 16, the Blue Angels will fly their new F-18 Super Hornet jet in their first appearance in Melbourne since 2015. “Fans are going to love seeing the new look for the Blues in 2021.”The Blue Angels retired the Legacy Hornet last fall and have transitioned to a fleet of jets that are “25% larger than its predecessor,” a news release said. “Given the challenges of the last year, we’re pleased to make this fun outdoor event possible in our own backyard at the Orlando Melbourne International Airport.”Tickets will go on sale online on Mar.

NEW YORK CITY – Jets from Navy’s Blue Angels and the Air Force’s Thunderbirds flew over New York City on Tuesday in a tribute to the medical personnel, first responders and other essential workers involved in fighting the coronavirus pandemic. The planes from the two demonstration squadrons flew in formation over New York and Newark beginning at noon. The planes later flew over Trenton, New Jersey, and Philadelphia. “We are incredibly honored to have the opportunity to salute those working on the front line of the COVID-19 response.
