news-journalonline.comMarion hospital district cuts Boys and Girls Club grant
Despite a couple of last-minute pleas to reconsider, the Marion County Hospital District board of trustees did not include the Boys and Girls Club of Marion County for a 2020 grant. In 2014, the hospital district received $213 million from the lease of Munroe Regional Medical Center. After the vote authorizing the grants, Klein made a motion to allow the Boys and Girls Club an extension to apply before Jan. 27. Last week, after the hospital district grant committee recommended stripping the Boys and Girls Club grant, current club CEO April Savarese said the loss of the money would hurt. We believe that the Boys & Girls Club supplied an opportunity for some early prevention to our members.
