Florida’s top prosecutor is warning the public about human trafficking ahead of the Super Bowl. “With entertainment events such as the Super Bowl, there is an increase in human trafficking,” Moody said. In the week leading up to last year’s Super Bowl in Miami, authorities arrested 44 people and rescued 22 victims of human trafficking, according to Moody. More than 170 arrested in Florida human trafficking case
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – More than 170 people were arrested on charges ranging from solicitation of prostitution to human trafficking of a minor in case involving a girl who was 13 when the two-year investigation began, Florida law enforcement authorities announced Tuesday. The investigation began in November 2018 when a Tallahassee police investigator noticed photos of a minor on a website offering sex for money. “Never have we had a case of this magnitude.”The crimes also went far beyond the city line and included suspects from Alabama and Mississippi. Tallahassee police worked with several local, state and federal agencies during the investigation. “She does have things to say,” Bascom said.
Department of Justice Joins Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers for Human Trafficking Roundtable
The Department of Justice today joined the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) and federal and local law enforcement officials at a roundtable to discuss the challenges posed by human traffickers. They and their counterparts from across the nation are among the first to take part in FLETCs human trafficking training program. Prosecutions led by the Southern District of Georgias Human Trafficking Task Force, spearheaded by the U.S. Attorneys Office, have freed at least 39 human trafficking victims.
