Crosby, Ovechkin among 1st round of NHL All-Star selections
NEW YORK — (AP) — Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin were among the first round of All-Star selections revealed by the NHL on Thursday night. Crosby, the longtime captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins, was selected for his ninth All-Star Game and Ovechkin his 13th, a Washington Capitals record. The league’s hockey operations department picked the first 32 All-Stars, one from each team. Reigning Norris Trophy winner and playoff MVP Cale Makar from the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche was also among those chosen. Vegas' Logan Thompson was the first rookie goaltender to make an All-Star team since Anaheim's John Gibson in 2016.

LAS VEGAS — (AP) — Vegas Golden Knights goalie Robin Lehner will require hip surgery and is expected to miss the upcoming season, the team said Thursday. Lehner started 44 games for the Golden Knights last season and finished 23-17-2. He has a 152–141–49 record and .917 save percentage over his NHL career. He won the William M. Jennings Trophy twice — in 2019 with the New York Islanders and in 2021 with the Golden Knights. Thompson, the AHL Goalie of the Year in 2019, went 10-5-3 with a .914 save percentage in 19 appearances with Vegas last season.

Stingrays defeat Solar Bears 3-0
ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Solar Bears (21-19-5-1) peppered South Carolina Stingrays (33-9-3-1) goaltender Logan Thompson with 34 shots on goal, but the rookie netminder turned aside all attempts to earn his third shutout of the season and deal Orlando a 4-0 loss on Thursday night the Jewett Orthopaedic Rink at Amway Center. The game remained tied at 0-0 through two periods of play, but South Carolina capitalized on a second-period power play that carried over into the third, as Branden Troock one-timed a shot past Clint Windsor 27 seconds into the third frame. Orlando’s best chance in the game came during a 5-on-3 man-advantage several minutes later, but the Stingrays were able to kill off both penalties. Clint Windsor took the loss for Orlando with 24 saves on 27 shots against; Thompson picked up the win for South Carolina going 34-for-34.
