That changed when Mickelson brought unwanted attention on the nascent league with interviews that disparaged the PGA Tour and the Saudis who are funding the LIV Golf Investments. Johnson was the biggest name to announce his support for the PGA Tour in February, and DeChambeau followed suit. Oregon is different because the PGA Tour does not allow for releases for tournaments held in North America.wftv.com

Cameron Smith ignores history and takes lead at Memorial
Cameron Smith believes he is playing the best golf of his life, and it shows. Smith elicited one of the loudest cheers of a glorious afternoon Friday at Muirfield Village — another anomaly for this weather-plagued tournament — when he holed out with a downhill chip from beyond the green on the par-3 12th that carried him to a 3-under 69. “I think I'm just happy with the way I stuck in there,” Smith said.news.yahoo.com

(AP Photo/Darron Cummings) (Darron Cummings)DUBLIN, Ohio — (AP) — Former Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama was disqualified Thursday when officials determined he had too much paint on the face of his 3-wood that he was using for alignment. It was the first time Matsuyama, who won the Memorial in 2014 for his first PGA Tour victory, had ever been disqualified on the PGA Tour. The alignment aid was not at issue, rather the substance used to create the lines was thick enough that it could affect the flight of the ball. ___More AP golf: https://apnews.com/hub/golf and https://twitter.com/AP_SportsCopyright 2022 The Associated Press.wftv.com

Morikawa leads at Muirfield Village on day suspended by rain
Memorial Golf Xander Schauffele reacts after missing a putt on the 13th hole during the first round of the Memorial golf tournament, Thursday, June 3, 2021, in Dublin, Ohio. Morikawa felt good vibes from an old putter and posted a 6-under 66 in rain-softened conditions Thursday morning at the Memorial. That gave him a one-shot lead over Adam Long among early starters, with Xander Schauffele in the group two shots behind. The weather was bad enough that the first round was suspended twice, with only half the field finishing the round. He won a playoff at Muirfield Village last year in the Workday Charity Open, a one-time event to replace the pandemic-canceled John Deere Classic.wftv.com
Same strong field at Memorial gets new look for golf course
Rahm returned to what tournament host Jack Nicklaus described as a new golf course, even though so much of it might look the same. I know he's always trying to make this a little bit more challenging for us, and he's definitely succeeded in making the golf course more difficult,” Rahm said Wednesday. The original thought to Chad Marks, the golf course superintendent, was to rid the greens of the poa annua grass. “I loved the golf course before. I think this golf course still has that aspect to it.”What hasn't changed is the thick grass that frames the fairways and Memorial having one of the strongest fields of regular PGA Tour events.wftv.com
Did you lose a loved one to COVID-19? Share their story and spirit with us
It almost seems impossible, but we’ve been living with COVID-19 in our lives for almost a year, and tragically, some of us have lost grandparents, parents, siblings and friends due to this unforgiving virus. As the United States is approaching 500,000 deaths since early 2020, it seems that many of us have experienced a COVID-related loss. So, in honor of your loved one’s memory, we’re asking that you share a photo of them and tell us their story. We’ve all dealt with grief in our lives, but losing a loved one to the COVID-19 pandemic is especially hard, since we all can’t celebrate their lives like we normally would. Hopefully sharing your loved ones with others virtually can bring you the tiniest bit of comfort in these uncertain times.

(AP Photo/Darron Cummings)DUBLIN, Ohio Jon Rahm won the Memorial to join Seve Ballesteros as the only Spaniards to reach No. Replay of Rahm's chip appeared to show the ball moved ever so slightly when he placed his lob wedge behind it. The chip was similar but from a different angle to Tiger Woods chipping in from behind the 16th green when he won the Memorial for the fifth time in 2012. Norlander and Hughes tied at 3-under 285, but the spot went to Hughes because he had the better world ranking.
Finau, Palmer share early lead at Memorial as Tiger hangs on
Tony Finau hits from the second tee during the second round of the Memorial golf tournament, Friday, July 17, 2020, in Dublin, Ohio. That kind of score isn't happening at Muirfield Village, where the greens are getting faster by the hour. The way Muirfield Village is playing, both are impressive. Woods, a five-time winner at Muirfield Village, has never missed the cut in 17 previous times at the Memorial. But I battled back well.Palmer played the Workday Charity Open last week at Muirfield Village and missed the cut.
Shane Lowry playing golf this week, but not where he thought
It will go to Royal St. Georges next summer. Its just very strange times for us at the minute, isnt it?Lowry said he has never seen the lunar landscape of Royal St. Georges. Id love if we were playing in front of 40,000 or 50,000 people this week in St. Georges, he said. For the week of the U.S. Open, golf was in its second week of returning from the pandemic, at Harbour Town. So everything that I miss or that I wont get to do this week, Im sure Ill get to do next year.
Tiger Woods to return next week at Muirfield Village
DUBLIN, Ohio The PGA Tour returned five weeks ago with some of its strongest fields. He chose not to go to Mexico City for a World Golf Championship, then skipped three straight tournaments in Florida before golf was halted because of the COVID-19 pandemic. That will give him at least one start, and possibly two if he plays a World Golf Championship in Tennessee, before heading into the first major of a reconfigured year. The PGA Championship is Aug. 6-9 at Harding Park in San Francisco, where Woods won a World Golf Championship in 2005. Woods has played only three times this season on the PGA Tour, starting with his record-tying 82nd victory at the Zozo Championship in Japan.
