Jones bolsters Heisman case; No. 1 Alabama beats LSU 55-17
1 Alabama used a slew of explosive plays to run away from LSU 55-17 on Saturday night. Jones threw three of his touchdown passes to Louisiana native DeVonta Smith, who went to the same high school as Louisiana Gov. Smith's first two touchdowns went for 65 and 61 yards to cap three-play, 75-yard drives for Alabama (9-0, 9-0 SEC). Each score pulled LSU as close as two touchdowns, but the Tide answered each with the two deep connections between Jones and Smith. Whiteโs 6th TD pass caps record comeback over UCF, 50-49
MEMPHIS, Tenn. โ Brady White's sixth touchdown pass with just over a minute remaining completed a school-record 21-point comeback and the Tigers beat UCF 50-49 on Saturday to snap a 13-game losing streak to the Knights. On the Tigers' winning drive, a shovel pass to Tahj Washington on fourth down went for 52 yards to the UCF 5. UCF led 27-14 at halftime, had a 21-point lead early in the third quarter and led 35-29 entering the final quarter during which the teams combined for five touchdowns. UCF outgained Memphis 798-703 for 1,501 yards offense combined, eclipsing the conference record of 1,479 set by the same teams in a 2017 game. The teams combined for 191 plays.
Lone Star Sadness: Horns, Aggies form Axis of Underachievers
At the top of USA Today's most recent revenue rankings for college athletic departments are Texas and Texas A&M. Texas and Texas A&M have everything needed to put out a national championship-level football program. The Aggies and Longhorns refuse to play each other but combine to form an Axis of Underachievers in the Lone Star State. In three games against Alabama under Fisher, the Aggies are 0-3 by a combined 144-75. For now, though, Texas and Texas A&M continue to prove the adage that money can't buy happiness.
Avila says Tigers aren't ruling out Hinch, Cora for manager
DETROIT โ Tigers general manager Al Avila said Friday that Detroit is not ruling out the possibility of hiring A.J. Hinch or Alex Cora for its manager vacancy. Hinch and Cora were suspended through the 2020 postseason for their roles in the Houston Astros' sign-stealing scandal. The Astros fired Hinch and general manager Jeff Luhnow on Jan. 13 and Cora lost his job managing the Boston Red Sox the following day.. Cora spent the 2017 season as bench coach on Hinch's staff with Houston. Avila said it is important that the next manager be able to help with talent evaluation, since there are important decisions to make throughout the roster.
โMatch made in heavenโ: Deion Sanders to coach Jackson State
Jackson Stateโs new football coach then stated โI believeโ many times about what he envisions happening on and off the field. Itโs a match made in heaven.โCurrently the offensive coordinator at Trinity Christian School-Cedar Hill in Texas, Sanders is taking his first head coaching job. โCoach Primeโ later opened a blue blazer lined with the JSU logo to much applause. Acting Jackson State President Thomas Hudson called the hiring โthe grace of Godโ and cited the school's football history in landing Sanders. Sanders also played nine seasons with four clubs in Major League Baseball, appearing in the 1992 World Series with the Atlanta Braves.
Orgeron: Most LSU players have had, recovered from COVID-19
Most of LSU's football players have contracted and recovered from COVID-19, coach Ed Orgeron said Tuesday, leaving the coaching staff hopeful those players will remain eligible to play the bulk of the season before they have to be tested again. โI think, not all of our players, but most of our players have caught it,โ Orgeron said during a video conference, adding later that he did not know the percentage of the roster that had tested positive. โSo we look at the players that have caught it and say, โOK these guys should be eligible,โ" Orgeron continued. So weโre looking at our roster in that manner.โOrgeron did not go into detail about whether any LSU players who tested positive have experienced symptoms. LSU officials have declined to make public precise counts or even percentages of players who have tested positive for antibodies or the disease itself.
Orgeron: LSU in the market for a transfer cornerback now
LSU coach Ed Orgeron is looking to add a transfer defensive back at a time when uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic could theoretically help the No. Were a little short at cornerback, Orgeron said during a video media conference Tuesday. We are currently researching if there is a cornerback or maybe a nickel cornerback out there who is available. The Eagles play in the ACC and remain on track to play its fall season. In addition, Fresno State standout linebacker Justin Rice also transferred after the Mountain West Conference postponed its fall season.

Cocoa Tigers tear up Astronaut War Eagles
COCOA, Fla. โ The Cocoa Tigers were dominant at home Friday night, rolling through Astronaut 49-7. [VIDEO: 6-Yard Line]Timmy Pratt helped the Tigers set the tone with two early touchdown runs to make it 14-0. Howard Stewart then broke free for a 60-yard score as Cocoa improved to 6-2 overall.
