Orlando police help shop for Boys & Girls Club members
ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando Police Officers rolled into Academy Sports + Outdoors Friday on a mission to shop, not for themselves, but for 10 kids at the Boys and Girls Club of Central Florida. These children would not have anything to open on Christmas if it wasn’t for the community and this event,” said Boys & Girls Club of Central Florida V.P. While the officers were inside, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer was outside dressed as Santa for the morning, raising money for the Boys & Girls Club on the radio. Orlando police officers and Shades, with the Orlando Solar Bears, went on a shopping trip for 10 children this Christmas. Academy Sports also donated some equipment to the Boys & Girls Club of Central Florida and presented them with $1,000, a gifts they hope will help support local kids through after school programming and mentorship.
10 laptops stolen from Boys & Girls Club of Marion County, again
MARION COUNTY, Fla. – The Silver Springs Shores Branch of the Boys & Girls Club of Marion County was burglarized twice this year. Savarese said thieves broke in and stole 10 laptops, computers the kids use to do school work. The Silver Springs Shores branch of the Boys & Girls Club serves about 100 members in the community, many of the kids from low-income families. Savarese said despite the loss of resources, they will continue to be a safe haven for kids in Marion County. They are hoping through this season of giving, the community will come together to help replace the items that were stolen.
