Pickup truck crashes into Orange County home

No one injured; driver faces DUI charge

ORLANDO, Fla. – A truck crashed into the family room of an east Orange County home early Monday, and the homeowner's son said he blocked the driver to prevent him from fleeing.

The crash happened around 12:35 a.m. on Bonneville Drive near the University of Central Florida.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Bruce Bonds, 37, of Orlando, was speeding in a 2012 Chevrolet pickup when he failed to negotiate a curve and struck a tree before slamming into the house.

Two people were inside the home at the time of the crash, but no one was injured. The wreck left a gaping hole in the middle of the house.

Rob Morse, the homeowner's son, said it's not the first time a vehicle has crashed into the home.

"We need to do something. We need guardrails or speed bumps or something, because this is ridiculous, you know?" Morse sad. "We have kids, like, there were teenagers that were actually on bicycles here when this happened."

Bonds was arrested on a DUI charge and was taken to the Orange County Jail.
