The FHP said Kevin Cottle died in the crash, which was reported at 5:50 a.m. on U.S. 27 and Independence Boulevard near Leesburg.

According to troopers, a semi driven by Tyrone Ivy, 43, of Orlando, turned into the path of Cottle's 2012 Dodge pickup, which struck the trailer and went underneath it. Cottle was pronounced dead at the scene, the FHP said.

Ivy and his passenger, a 40-year-old Fruitland man, were not injured, troopers said. Charges are pending.

Three other vehicles also struck the semi, causing serious injuries to two of the drivers, the FHP said. The third driver and his passenger suffered minor injuries, troopers said.

Roads were blocked in the area after the crash.

Dense fog was spotted in the area after the crash, but troopers did not say whether it played a role in the wreck.

An investigation is continuing.
