Altamonte Springs man killed when FedEx semi, Jeep collide on Turnpike

Wreck happened south of SR 417

A 29-year-old Altamonte Springs man was killed early Friday when a FedEx semitrailer and Jeep SUV collided on the Florida Turnpike near the Orange-Osceola county line, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The rollover crash was reported around 2:45 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the Turnpike, south of State Road 417.

The FHP said the FedEx truck was northbound on the Turnpike when it collided with the Jeep, which was traveling from S.R. 417 onto the highway and overturned after the crash. Troopers said it's not known what caused the vehicles to crash.

Joseph Figueroa Ledesma was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Jeep, a 24-year-old Winter Park woman, was taken to Osceola Regional Medical Center.

Four other Jeep passengers suffered minor injuries.

The truck driver, a 39-year-old Miami man, was not injured.

Alcohol did not play a role in the crash, according to the FHP.
