SUV driver, 72, killed in crash with school bus in Summerfield

2 aboard bus suffer minor injuries

SUMMERFIELD, Fla. – A 72-year-old Umatilla woman was killed Monday morning in a crash with a school bus in Summerfield, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The fatal crash was reported around 8:35 a.m. on County Road 42 at Southeast 117th Avenue.

According to the FHP, a GMC Yukon rear-ended the school bus, which was traveling west on C.R. 42 and stopped to pick up a student.

The driver of the SUV, Gail Puskas, 72, was killed in the wreck, according to the FHP.

Marion County Public Schools said there were four students on the bus, which was headed to Lake Weir High School.

The student getting on the bus was struck by the side of the bus and debris from the crash, the FHP said.

The injured student and a bus aide suffered minor injuries, school officials said.
