Motorcyclist killed in crash with Florida deputy attempting to stop other vehicle

Deputy had emergency lights activated, was uninjured

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A 25-year-old Riverview man riding a motorcycle through Hillsborough County was killed in a crash Saturday night with a marked sheriff’s office SUV, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 10:10 p.m. on US-301 at Ayersworth Glen Boulevard, troopers said.

According to a preliminary FHP crash report, the Riverview man was traveling north on US-301 while a 24-year-old Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputy was headed southbound in a marked Chevrolet Tahoe. The deputy had their emergency lights activated and was attempting to conduct a traffic stop on another vehicle, the report states.

The Riverview man’s motorcycle and the deputy’s SUV collided at the intersection of US-301 and Ayersworth Glen Boulevard, troopers said. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and the deputy was uninjured, according to the report.
