Orlando man dies in Celebration after being struck by sheriff’s office SUV, troopers say

CELEBRATION, Fla. – A 55-year-old Orlando man died early Sunday after being struck by a marked Osceola County Sheriff’s Office SUV in Celebration, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 1:16 a.m. on W. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway near Celebration Avenue, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the SUV was being driven westbound in the inside lane of Irlo Bronson, west of Celebration Avenue, when its front right struck the pedestrian. The Orlando man was walking in a northerly direction from the median and was not in a marked crosswalk, entering the direct path of the marked Ford Explorer before being hit, the report states.

The Orlando man was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead, troopers said.

The driver of the SUV — a 28-year-old Kissimmee man — was not injured and remained on scene, according to FHP. Troopers believe he was not wearing a seat belt in the crash.

FHP is still investigating.
