It’s only the latest case of a driver shattering a speed limit in our coverage area, in this case almost doubling the posted 70 mph maximum.

Just this month, a Hillsborough County man was arrested and accused of street racing on State Road 408 in Orlando at speeds over 100 mph, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. A driver arrested in February had allegedly ran a red light and led Marion County deputies on a pursuit, also reaching speeds over 100 mph. For an example from January of this year, Volusia County deputies said they had to use stop sticks to catch an 18-year-old man who had stolen a city of Umatilla pickup truck and nearly caused several head-on collisions on his respective 100+ mph attempt to run.
