Bicyclist struck, killed by suspected drunken driver in Titusville, police say

TITUSVILLE, Fla. – A 41-year-old man faces DUI manslaughter charges after he struck and killed a bicyclist in Titusville on Sunday evening, according to a news release.

Police said they responded to a traffic crash around 9 p.m. along a section of Foley Road between Cheney Highway and S.R. 405.

According to the release, a preliminary investigation showed that a driver of a Chevrolet Silverado truck – identified as Michael Wayne Gragg – was driving west on Foley Road when he veered from the roadway and struck a bicyclist who was also traveling west.

Police said the bicyclist – identified as 66-year-old Gene Ryan Collins, was taken to he hospital where he was pronounced dead around 10 p.m.

According to the release, Gragg left the crash scene but returned a few minutes later.

Police said they conducted field sobriety tests, which “provided probable cause for arrest resulting in a felony charge of DUI manslaughter.”

Gragg is being held without bond at the Brevard County jail.

Titusville police said the crash remains under investigation.
