According to a news release, the initial investigation revealed that a motorcycle rider was traveling north on S. Harbor City Boulevard, and video footage obtained from the scene showed that the passenger vehicle was making a left turn out of the parking lot at 709 S. Harbor City Blvd. when it pulled in front of the motorcycle, causing a collision with the driver’s side of the vehicle.

A second motorcycle, which was following closely behind the first, attempted to avoid the passenger vehicle but struck its front, police said.

When Brevard County Fire Rescue arrived on the scene, the first motorcycle rider was found unresponsive underneath the vehicle. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police identified the rider as Joshua Risby Garcia of Palm Bay.

The occupants of the passenger vehicle were transported with minor injuries.

The crash in Melbourne forced the temporary closure of S. Harbor City Boulevard, according to police.

Melbourne police said around 2:20 p.m. that the roadway had been reopened.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Traffic Homicide Investigator Officer Costello at (321) 616-6027.
