Florida troopers investigate 2-vehicle wreck

ORLANDO, Fla. – An Orange County sheriff’s deputy, a defendant who was being transported to jail and another driver were injured early Tuesday when the deputy ran a red light and caused a crash, authorities said.

The two-vehicle wreck happened around 3:30 a.m. near the intersection of John Young Parkway and State Road 408.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the deputy was driving a marked patrol car south on John Young Parkway and ran a red light, striking the front of a northbound Dodge Charger that was making a left turn onto S.R. 408.

All three crash victims were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Southbound lanes of John Young Parkway were closed at Old Winter Garden Road, but they were reopened a few hours later.

The crash remains under investigation.
