ORLANDO, Fla. – A “ground depression” forced authorities to close a major exit ramp in Orlando, officials said. The Orange Avenue exit ramp (10B) off State Road 408 was closed Wednesday morning because of the depression. Downed power lines cause noon-time traffic mess on SR-417, SR-408
ORLANDO, Fla. – Downed power lines forced authorities to close two major toll roads Thursday in Orange County, but they were later reopened. 5 hospitalized following accident on State Road 408, authorities say
Three adults and two children were hospitalized following a crash on State Road 408 on Sunday, according to Orange County Fire Rescue. The crash occurred westbound on State Road 408 between Pine Hills and Kirkman Road, authorities said. Two adults were taken on trauma alerts to Orlando Health, two children were taken to Arnold Palmer hospital and another adult was taken to Orlando Health, authorities said.
Driver killed after hitting wall near SR 408, falling 28 feet, Orlando police say
ORLANDO, Fla. – A driver was killed Thursday morning after crashing his vehicle into a concrete wall and falling 28 feet, according to Orlando police. The crash was reported at 8:30 a.m. near the on-ramp of State Road 408 and Lake Underhill Road. The vehicle then fell 28 feet into a wooded area. AdA landscape worker called 911 after finding the crash. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Speed limit increasing for part of State Road 408 in Orange County
Drivers will soon be able to hit the gas pedal a little more along a portion of State Road 408 in Orange County. During a meeting Thursday, Central Florida Expressway Authority board members voted unanimously to increase the speed limit from 55 to 60 mph along State Road 408, between Kirkman Road and Chickasaw Trail. Along 408 in Orange County, drivers go from a 65 mph speed limit to 55 in both directions. Engineers said State Road 408 is nearly 50 years old, and that increasing the speed limit even more would require costly construction and changes to the roadway. With the board’s approval of the speed limit change, 55 new signs will be created costing about $125,000.
Injured tow truck driver gets moving tribute as he recovers in hospital
ORLANDO, Fla. – After a tow truck worker was critically injured in Orlando, a group of tow trucks came to brighten his night. A fleet of tow trucks drove by the hospital to show their support for their fellow worker as he works on recovering from his injuries. “We all showed up down there to make sure Austin knew that we fully supported him and we’re pulling for him.”According to Lucas, all types of tow truck companies showed up. AdThe tow truck drivers are hoping that their efforts will help drivers to follow Florida’s “Move Over” law. The mechanic and the driver of the car were also injured and taken to the hospital.
Man dead, woman critically injured in Orange County shooting
ORLANDO, Fla. – A man was killed and a woman was critically wounded Thursday night in a double shooting in Orange County, according to deputies. The shooting was reported around 7:25 p.m. at the Highpoint Club Apartments off Rouse Road between Colonial Drive and State Road 408. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to the apartments and found the man and woman, both of whom were suffering from a gunshot wound. The woman, in her 20s, was taken to a hospital in critical condition, according to deputies. No other details have been released, but sheriff’s officials said detectives are not searching for anyone in connection to the shooting.
1 motorcyclist killed, 1 injured in crash on SR-408 in Orlando
ORLANDO, Fla. – A car and motorcycle collided late Monday in Orlando, killing a man and prompting police to close State Road 408 for hours. The fatal crash was reported around 11:55 p.m. on eastbound State Road 408 at Conway Road. According to Orlando police, both riders on the motorcycle were ejected in the crash. The other passenger was taken to a hospital but is expected to survive, police said. It’s not known if anyone in the car was injured.
Rabid otter found in Delaney Park area of Orlando
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A rabies alert has been issued for the Delaney Park area after an otter tested positive for the deadly virus on Tuesday. Officials said anyone who has been bitten or scratched by a wild animal should contact the Florida Department of Health in Orange County at 407-858-1420. Health officials provided the following advice:All pets should have current rabies immunizations. If bitten or scratched by a suspected rabid animal, wash the wound immediately with soap and water, seek medical attention and promptly report the incident. Woman found on fire dies at Orlando home, police say
ORLANDO, Fla. – A woman found ablaze died Tuesday morning at an Orlando house in what authorities have deemed a suspicious death. Orlando police officers doused the flames and tended to the woman, who was on fire, officials said. Orlando firefighters then took over rescue efforts, but the woman died at the scene, according to authorities. Officials said a suspicious death investigation has been launched. Police said the woman’s death is not being investigated as a homicide and there’s no danger to the community.
Semi carrying eggs catches fire, closes I-4 near SR-408 in Orlando

New flyover ramp opens from westbound SR-408 to westbound I-4
ORLANDO, Fla. – A new flyover ramp is open connecting westbound State Road 408 to westbound I-4. I-4 Ultimate officials call the new flyover the "crown jewel" of the project. The 120-foot tall flyover opened on Sunday. I-4 Ultimate officials said traffic is down 15% because of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Drivers should avoid distractions, adjust their speed, and allow plenty of time to navigate the I-4 Ultimate work zone.”
Eastbound SR 408 ramp to Orange Avenue closes for 6 months
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Drivers who usually take eastbound State Road 408 to Orange Avenue will need to use a detour for the next six months starting Monday. The closure will take place so crews can demolish the existing ramp and build a new one that will accommodate for a wider State Road 408 East. “To access Orange Avenue, motorists will need to use the exit to Mills Avenue (Exit 11B), where tolls will be suspended for the duration of the closure. A nonsignalized U-turn will be created on Mills Avenue under S.R. 408, allowing motorists to then enter South Street toward downtown Orlando,” the Florida Department of Transportation wrote on a web page announcing the closure.

State Road 408 reopens at I-4 after storms pass through Orlando area
ORLANDO, Fla. – State Road 408 at Interstate 4 reopened Thursday night, about an hour after it was shut down due to loose scaffolding, windy conditions and debris, according to the Orlando Police Department. “The loose pieces were removed and the remaining support brackets of the scaffolding are secure,” Orlando police said. The road reopened in both directions around 7 p.m. “After investigating the situation, the decision was made by law enforcement to close the road,” FDOT communications manager Steve Olson said. After a thorough inspection of the area, law enforcement reopened the roadway in coordination with FDOT.
