SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – A driver is accused of DUI after a 71-year-old Wildwood man operating a lawn mower on County Road 222 in Sumter County was hit by a pickup truck on Saturday and later died, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 8:39 p.m., west of NE 9th Street, as the man traveled east on C.R. 222 with no lighting, troopers said in a statement.
A Dodge Dakota being driven east on C.R. 222 by a 36-year-old Ocala man overtook and collided with the lawn mower, the statement reads.
The Wildwood man, later identified by the FHP as Eugene Frazier, was hospitalized and later died from his injuries, troopers said.
The driver of the Dodge, identified as Larry Romain Hall, allegedly refused breath testing and was accused of misdemeanor DUI, according to FHP. Hall was booked at the Sumter County Jail, where he has since bonded out, records show.
