ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Around 300 Duke Energy customers were affected by a crash early Sunday in Orange County that the company says damaged its equipment.
The outage was first reported around 4:19 a.m. on Lee Road, between Edgewater Drive and Interstate 4, according to Duke Energy’s website.
All eastbound lanes of Lee Road were blocked until around 8:30 a.m.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 2022 Toyota Corolla traveling eastbound on Lee Road, approaching Adanson Street in the outside lane, ran off the roadway to the right as its driver failed to negotiate a curve. The Toyota struck a power pole as a result, causing downed power lines, troopers said.
Service restoration was estimated by 10:30 a.m., Duke’s website states, adding around 20 people were still without power by 8:30 a.m.
The driver of the Toyota, a 22-year-old St. Cloud man, was not injured and remained at the scene.
FHP is still investigating.
