CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – A 56-year-old man was killed along State Road 528 in Cape Canaveral on Friday when a vehicle veered off the road and struck him, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred Friday morning on eastbound State Road 528 near mile marker 53, forcing the closure of the right lane, FHP said. The lane is back open.

Troopers say the victim, who was from Kissimmee, was reaching into an unoccupied SUV on the side of the road when a pickup truck veered off the road and struck both the victim and the SUV.

The driver, a 24-year-old man from Cape Canaveral, was not hurt and stayed at the scene. The victim was taken to Cape Canaveral Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not been released.
