According to an arrest report, the victim said a white Mercedes attempted to pass his vehicle on the right shoulder but failed to merge safely, causing the Mercedes to collide with the front right of the victim’s car. The victim also provided dashboard camera footage showing the Mercedes pulling up next to his vehicle before speeding away.
The victim said someone from the Mercedes then threw a plastic cup filled with liquid at them, which splashed on the passenger. The driver was described as a black male with dreadlocks. The victim’s 1-month-old son, who was in the back seat, was transported by ambulance to the hospital. The extent of the child’s injuries was not given.
After tracing the Mercedes to an Apopka address, troopers found the vehicle around 3:30 p.m. Sunday near Bear Lake Road and McNeil Road and conducted a traffic stop. The passenger, Marquail Travonte Jennings, matched the description given.
Jennings said he was driving during the Saturday crash and claimed the victim left the scene afterward, and the victim had thrown the cup of water, when Jennings was informed that there was dashboard camera footage of the incident.
Jennings also acknowledged that his mother, who was supposed to call law enforcement, did not. Troopers noted the vehicle had damage consistent with the crash, the arrest report states.
Jennings was arrested on charges including felony hit-and-run with injury, battery, and multiple counts of assault. He was taken to Orange County Jail without incident.
