OCALA, Fla. – A 40-year-old man died early Wednesday when his car rear-ended a tractor-trailer that was stopped at a red light in Ocala, police said.

The fatal crash happened around 2:15 a.m. in the 1000 block of South Pine Avenue.

Ocala police said a semitrailer was at the red light when the driver of a Honda Accord failed to stop and struck the back of the tractor-trailer.

The Honda driver was taken to a hospital, where he died, police said.

The driver of the big rig was uninjured.

“Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the victim during this difficult time,” police said in a Facebook post.

The crash remains under investigation.
