At midnight, crews responded to a fire in the 2000 block of Pine Street. They said they were able to knock down all the fires. ORLANDO, Fla. — The City of Orlando wants to make downtown and nearby neighborhoods safer by installing better lighting. Monday, Orlando City Council voted to approve the lighting improvement project, which is expected to cost $575,000. LaShawnda Brown said the lighting in Parramore is poor. The city said improvements would include removing existing light fixtures and installing brighter and more efficient LED fixtures on pedestrian acorn light poles, cobrahead light poles, and lights mounted on signal mast arms. The project has been in the works for years, but the city said staff wants to speed it up.

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Multiple arrests were carried out in two separate drug-related raids by Melbourne police Jan. 22, according to arrest reports released to News 6 partner Florida Today. Investigations into two residences, one at 1810 Pine Street and one at 219 Fee Avenue culminated in raids by SWAT officers Friday. According to police reports, three warrants had been served on the Fee Avenue home in the past year because of suspected drug sales. Those arrested at the Fee Avenue home include: Jerome Kenerly Jr., 37; John Edward Key, 39; Anna Heinly, 34; and Sarah Kenerly, 35. Those arrested at the Pine Street home include: Richard Heinrich Jr., 37; Carolyn Daly, 36; Francis Plante, 52; and Kelly McCauley, 35.
Leesburg moving forward on pool plan
LEESBURG The Leesburg Commission is moving forward with a tentative design for the citys forthcoming aquatic center. Commissioners agreed on a proposed concept, estimated to cost $4.4 million, which includes an eight-lane competition pool connected to a recreation pool with beach entry, a two-story water slide, a play structure and a water jungle gym. Mayor John Christian said he wanted to make sure the recreation pool could still be open if the competition pool was in use. Mike Pederson pointed out the awkwardness of the pool site. And the least expensive plan came in around $4.1 million, but the pool was smaller.
