TRAFFIC ALERT: Fatal hit-and-run closes I-95 at SR-528 in Brevard

Victim ID’d as 29-year-old Cocoa man

COCOA, Fla. – A fatal hit-and-run crash early Thursday has prompted the closure of Interstate 95 in Brevard County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The wreck happened around 5 a.m. on I-95 north near State Road 528.

All northbound lanes are closed in the area, and drivers are asked to seek an alternate route.

The FHP said an a vehicle was traveling north on I-95 and struck a pedestrian, a 29-year-old Cocoa man who died at the scene.

The vehicle left the scene after the crash, according to troopers, who said there’s no information about the driver or type of vehicle.

It’s not known why the Cocoa man was walking on or near the interstate.

All northbound traffic is being directed onto the S.R. 528 exit ramp. Drivers can stay on the ramp to re-enter northbound I-95.
