ORLANDO, Fla. – Bumper-to-bumper traffic and concerns about unsafe driving are fueling frustration for Central Florida commuters, according to MetroPlan Orlando’s 2026 Regional Transportation Survey.

More than 2,500 people in Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties responded, with congestion ranking as the top complaint. “The traffic on the Lake Mary exit is just always atrocious,” said Kristen Johnson, a driver who said routine delays and crashes force her to leave increasingly earlier to make it to her destination on time.

Unsafe driver behavior was the second biggest concern, including distracted driving. Johnson reacted strongly to a finding that one in five respondents said it is acceptable to text and drive. “Absolutely not. Don’t do that,” she said.

The survey also pointed to transportation challenges beyond cars. About 35% of respondents said sidewalks are missing where they are needed. Nearly 59% said there are not enough bike lanes and that they do not feel safe sharing the road with drivers. Among Lynx bus riders, 42% said arrival and departure times are inconvenient.

MetroPlan Orlando officials said the survey results will help inform future regional transportation priorities and where funding is focused.
