3 other deaths announced in Volusia County

PORT ORANGE, Fla. – A 54-year-old woman was killed when a tree fell onto a home in Port Orange as Hurricane Milton ripped through Florida, officials said on Thursday.

The death happened on Spring Drive.

Officials said a tree fell onto a home, resulting in the death of the woman, who was inside.

Volusia County officials said Thursday that there were four known deaths in the county from Milton. Two people were killed by falling trees and two others suffered fatal heart attacks.

No other details have been released.

Milton made landfall Wednesday night in Siesta Key before sweeping through Central Florida and into the Atlantic.

Volusia County was hit hard with blinding rains and flooding.

In Brevard County, a tornado spawned by the hurricane damaged several buildings. No injuries were reported.

Over 100 homes were destroyed in Fort Pierce in a tornado outbreak, resulting in multiple deaths.
