ORLANDO, Fla. – Rain chances are on the rise as we move through Wednesday. We started the day with some coastal showers. Moisture levels continue to rise, fueling those showers.
Wednesday afternoon, the highest rain and storm coverage today is expected west of Orlando, where sea breeze boundaries are likely to collide later in the day. Rain chances are 40%-50%.
While widespread severe weather is not expected, a few stronger storms could produce gusty winds. Slow-moving storms will also be capable of dumping heavy rain in localized areas.
Afternoon highs will reach the upper 80s along the coast and low 90s inland.
The weather pattern becomes more active on Thursday and Friday as moisture continues to build. Rain and storm chances increase each day, with coverage expanding across much of Central Florida by Friday. While the overall severe weather threat remains low, an isolated strong storm cannot be ruled out. The slow storm motion will continue to raise concerns for localized flooding, especially in locations that receive repeated rounds of heavy rain.
At the same time, temperatures and humidity will continue climbing.
Afternoon highs are expected to reach the low to mid-90s late this week, with heat index values topping 100 degrees in many areas by Friday. The hottest conditions are expected this weekend and into next week, when feels-like temperatures could reach 100 to 105 degrees or higher. That means we could see moderate to major heat risk levels across portions of Central Florida.
Warm overnight temperatures in the 70s will provide little relief, making it important to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks outdoors, and limit strenuous activities during the hottest part of the day.
Looking ahead to the weekend and early next week, a strengthening Atlantic ridge will keep a steady flow of moisture in place. This setup favors daily rounds of showers and thunderstorms, particularly across the eastern half of the Florida peninsula. Rain chances will remain elevated, generally ranging from 60% to 70% each day.
If you have outdoor plans this weekend, be prepared for both the heat and the possibility of afternoon thunderstorms.
At the beaches, a moderate risk of rip currents continues. Beachgoers are encouraged to swim near a lifeguard and use extra caution in the surf.
