ORLANDO, Fla. – Central Florida is settling into a more typical summer weather pattern, with scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms expected to develop on Wednesday while temperatures continue to climb into the 90s.
WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY
A weak front over Northern Florida is helping to spark storms this afternoon as the east and west coast sea breezes collide across the peninsula. Unlike earlier this week, there is a little more moisture available in the atmosphere, which should allow storms to become more numerous by late day.
Rain and storm chances will be highest from the Orlando area southward during the late afternoon and evening hours. Storms will initially develop along the sea breeze boundaries before becoming more widespread as those boundaries collide inland.
A few stronger storms are possible. The primary threats will be frequent lightning, wind gusts of 40 to 55 mph, small hail, and torrential downpours.
Temperatures will once again climb into the low to mid-90s this afternoon. Combined with Florida’s humidity, it will feel more like 100 to 105 degrees in many communities.
WEEKEND
Looking ahead, storm chances will taper off a bit into the weekend, with coverage at 30-40%. With the lack of cooling rain, the heat will rage on with highs soaring into the upper 90s and heat indices into the triple digits.
