Shop roofs among the Milton debris making driving in Volusia County hazardous

Curfew runs between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A curfew order is still in place in Volusia County, and Sheriff Mike Chitwood says one of the reasons is the debris from Hurricane Milton makes driving hazardous.

The curfew runs from 9 p.m. on Thursday to 5 a.m. on Friday.

Among the damage that News 6′s Molly Reed found was at a coffee shop. The owners boarded up the windows and thought everything was OK, but during the storm, the building’s roof ripped off and was found a block away. The owners left a sign saying they would rebuild.

Meanwhile, the owner of a nearby ice cream shop could tell the roof was gone because they saw the damage on store cameras.

“We didn’t lose power so we saw on the cameras that we had probably the roof gone because we saw the light of the roof,” said Kamil Sikora, the owner of Cherry Hill Ice Cream Shop. “e knew it was bad but we didn’t know it was that bad. Then we got a call from the city when we were on our way here. And when we came here we saw, the window was completely blown out and our roof is gone so hopefully it’ll stop raining it’s so wet inside but you know, it is what it is.”
