Semi overturns, billboard falls as storms hit Central Florida

Areas south of Orlando have best chance to see thunderstorms

ORLANDO, Fla. – Storms drenched portions of Central Florida on Tuesday, prompting weather alerts and toppling a billboard in Lake County.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for portions of Brevard County until 3:15 p.m. 

"Strong storm over Barefoot Bay is moving east at 20 mph capable of producing wind gusts near 60 mph along with quarter-sized hail," News 6 chief meteorologist Tom Sorrells tweeted.

Meanwhile, a billboard was toppled along U.S. 192 near Town Center Boulevard in Lake County. A tractor-trailer also overturned on U.S. 27 near U.S. 192 in Clermont.

Four children and two adults were rescued from an RV that toppled over due to strong winds, according to Polk County Fire Rescue.

According to a weather alert, storms capable of producing penny-sized hail, along with wind gusts near 60 mph, were possible in the area.

It's not known if anyone was injured in either incident.

"We continue to pinpoint a front as it moves to the south of our region," News 6 meteorologist Troy Bridges said. "This front will continue bring a few thunderstorms to us into the afternoon hours."

Bridges said the Orlando area, mostly to the south, will see a 40% chance of rain with some embedded thunderstorms.

"Most of the rain will be in Osceola and central and southern Brevard counties," Bridges said. 

Orlando will see a high in the upper 80s. The average high on this date is 87.

Expect partly to mostly cloudy skies through the evening and temperatures near 70 overnight.

Orlando will see a high of 88 Wednesday, with a 20% chance of rain.

Rain chances are very slim Thursday through Sunday. Highs will be near 90.
