Free back-to-school physicals getting results for families in need

Physicals available to children up to 18 years old

ORLANDO, Fla. – With the start of the school year right around the corner, free physicals are being offered for uninsured and underinsured students in Central Florida.

Shepherd's Hope and Nemours Children's Health System has teamed up for the fourth consecutive year to offer the back-to-school physicals, as well as vision and hearing screenings.

"The need is still very great," president and CEO of Shepherd's Hope Marni Stahlman said.  "Here in Orange and Seminole County alone, we have about 30,000 children that are uninsured."

A physical examination by a health professional is required for all students who enroll in the state of Florida for the first time.

"This is our attempt to try to meet that need here in our community.  Make sure these children get off to a good school year," Stahlman said.

The free physicals are available for children under 18 years old.

In addition, mammogram screenings will be available for women accompanying their children at the Longwood Shepherd's Hope Health Center.

Patients who meet requirements can make an appointment by calling (407) 876-669, ext. 243.
